The Jr. Girls Unit was started just over a year ago and the girls in their first year, earned many badges, plus they took first place for their Historian Book on the Department Level and second place for their Buddy Poppy Display both on the Department and National Level. This is a huge accomplishment. Of course, they haven’t stopped working toward their badges this year either. Now the girls have worked on one of their badges which is a Newsletter Badge and would like to share it with everyone.
The Jr. Girls Unit of Post 6704 of Mechanicsburg Memorial Post, Mechanicsburg, PA., is having a fundraiser for Ms. Karen Hoover, Sr. Vice President of the Department of Pennsylvania. The money collected will go toward Ms. Hoover advancing to Department President for the 2015-2016 year. |

For their badge the girls interviewed Ms. Karen. They would like to share some of the important things to which Ms. Karen answered their questions. Ms. Karen Hoover was born on December 19, 1956. She joined the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in 1985 under her father Leon Savadge. Her father drove a jeep in the army during the War. Karen loves working for the Jr. Girls unit, since last year, and went camping with us in Gettysburg. She is very excited and looking forward to being President and will become Department President of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary on June 20, 2015. There is still a lot of work needed to be done before she takes her position and is looking forward to having the Jr. Girls unit assist her in doing something at her installation. Since 1985, just after joining her Auxiliary, she was elected Jr. Vice President, and has gone through all the chairs in the Ladies Auxiliary, District and Department. As Department President, she would like to make changes so more people become aware of Veteran’s needs. |
